The Calgary Adapted Hub powered by Jumpstart is excited to announce the launch of four new adaptive and disability-inclusive sports to Calgarians, in addition to the return of many family favourites this fall!

All Sport One Day is back from August 19 - 21 and will feature many fully adapted and partially adapted sessions

Calgary has been selected as the host city for the 2024 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games. "Calgary is proud to have been chosen as host city for the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games 2024," said Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek in a release. “We look forward to sharing our great facilities and our inclusive community spirit will welcome all with open arms. I know Calgarians will volunteer in great numbers to ensure that this event delivers the experience of a lifetime for these amazing athletes and their families."

The Parkdale community rink has gone from a crumbling structure to a barrier-breaking hub after a major facelift. Alberta’s first fully accessible outdoor facility opened to the public on Saturday, and as Cami Kepke reports, the community association hopes to see other neighbourhoods follow suit.

The Calgary Adapted Hub, Vi Riddell Pediatric Rehabilitation Research Program, and the University of Calgary are conducting a survey to learn about participation, injury and concussion rates in adapted and para sport and recreation. September is not just the return to school It’s also the return to SPORT! Sport Calgary is proud to announce the return of their signature event, All Sport One Day in a special ‘Extended Edition’ for 2021. This year, there are over 20 sessions that are either partially or fully adaptable for children and youth with a disability. A full list of adaptive programs is available at AllSportOneDay.ca.

Although the Olympics have ended, the Tokyo 2020 Summer Games are far from over. Canada’s Paralympic athletes are now heading to Tokyo to compete in the Paralympic Games from August 24 to September 5.

Outdoor play for children and youth with a disability is a right. A new Inclusive Playgrounds resource present evidence-informed recommendations for designing playgrounds to enable inclusion and participation of children with disabilities.

In August 2020 it was announced that Calgary is about to become an adapted sport hub to enhance opportunities for physical activity and recreation for Calgary families experiencing disability.
