Understanding youth sport requires looking at it from two angles: what families experience and
what young people themselves feel. This report brings both perspectives together, drawing on
two major 2025 research studies (see Appendix: Methodology for details), to establish a baseline
understanding of participation, identify systemic barriers, and inform evidence-based investment
across the youth sport sector.
